ERA with Fractional Innings
Formula
In baseball, innings pitched are recorded in thirds. A pitcher who gets one out in the 7th inning has pitched 6 and 1/3 innings, written as 6.1 in box scores but calculated as 6.333 for ERA purposes.
This calculator properly converts baseball notation (where .1 means one-third and .2 means two-thirds) to decimal values before calculating ERA.
Common use cases:
- Accurate pitcher ERA calculation
- Handling partial-inning statistics
- Season-long pitching performance tracking
