How to Scale a Recipe

Formula

Scaling a recipe is simple math: divide desired servings by original servings to get a scale factor, then multiply every ingredient by that factor.

When scaling up significantly (3x or more), seasoning and leavening agents may not scale linearly. Taste and adjust as you go.

Common use cases:

  • Doubling dinner recipes
  • Halving batch recipes
  • Scaling for party portions
