Understanding Your Blood Pressure Reading

Blood pressure is measured in millimeters of mercury (mmHg) with two numbers: systolic (heart pumping) over diastolic (heart resting). Normal blood pressure is below 120/80 mmHg.

The AHA categories: Normal (<120/<80), Elevated (120-129/<80), Hypertension Stage 1 (130-139/80-89), Stage 2 (140+/90+), Hypertensive Crisis (>180/>120). Consult a doctor if your readings are consistently elevated.
