Optimize Your Sleep with Sleep Cycles

Formula

Bedtime = Wake Time - (Cycles x 90 min) - Fall Asleep Time; output in minutes from midnight

Each sleep cycle lasts approximately 90 minutes and includes light sleep, deep sleep, and REM stages. Waking up at the end of a cycle rather than in the middle helps you feel more refreshed and alert.

Most adults need 4-6 complete sleep cycles (6-9 hours) per night. This calculator works backward from your wake-up time to suggest optimal bedtimes aligned with complete cycles.

Common use cases:

  • Improving morning alertness
  • Optimizing sleep schedule
  • Reducing sleep inertia
