Wavelength, Frequency, and Wave Speed
Formula
Wavelength (λ) is the distance between consecutive wave crests. It relates to frequency (f) and wave speed (v) by λ = v/f. For sound at 343 m/s, a 440 Hz tone (concert A) has a wavelength of about 0.78 m. For light at 3×10⁸ m/s, visible wavelengths range from 380-700 nm.
Common use cases:
- Antenna design and RF engineering
- Musical acoustics analysis
- Optical system design
