How to Calculate Plywood Sheets

Formula

Sheets = (Length × Width × (1 + Waste%)) ÷ 32 sq ft per sheet

A standard 4×8 sheet of plywood covers 32 square feet. Divide your total area (with waste factor) by 32 to determine how many sheets you need.

Common plywood thicknesses include 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 5/8, and 3/4 inch. Thicker sheets cost more but provide greater structural strength.

Common use cases:

  • Subfloor installation
  • Roof sheathing
  • Wall sheathing and shelving
