Understanding Acid-Base Titration
Formula
Titration is a laboratory technique used to determine the concentration of an unknown acid or base by reacting it with a solution of known concentration. At the equivalence point, moles of acid equal moles of base.
For a monoprotic acid-base titration, CaVa = CbVb at equivalence. The equivalence point can be detected using indicators or pH meters. Titration is a cornerstone of analytical chemistry.
Common use cases:
- Determining unknown concentrations
- Quality control in manufacturing
- Water hardness testing
