How to Calculate Hours Between Two Times

Formula

total minutes = (end hour × 60 + end min) − (start hour × 60 + start min)

This calculator finds the time difference between a start and end time. Enter both times in 24-hour format and get the result in total minutes, decimal hours, and hours-and-minutes.

It handles overnight spans by adding 24 hours when the end time is earlier than the start time.

Common use cases:

  • Calculating work hours for timesheets
  • Tracking exercise or study duration
  • Event planning time calculations
